At a National Portfolio Day event, students connect with admissions officers, faculty, and counselors, from accredited art and design universities around the globe. It’s a rare chance to ask specific questions and get real advice, straight from the source. It is also your chance to see if the program matches your objectives.

In June, I visited the School of Visual Arts in New York. I had the great fortune to visit facilities dedicated to Film, 3D Animation and Visual Effects, Interior Design: Built Environments majors, gallery and exhibition spaces, the library and student housing.

A sophisticated visual aesthetic ties the learning and making spaces together. Common areas are filled with, or are themselves works of art, and it is routine for students to pass a work by Chuck Close or a Kara Walker as they go from class to class.
